For a designer it would be a dream come true if your name and products went global. It would be great to be known all over the world and it would mean that people like your creations.
Technology is a great thing and has improved things such as speed and cost. Particularly in fashion it has allowed us to mass produce products, have them made quicker so they can be in the stores quicker and made acurately and precicely. Technological improvements in the last forty years included improved fabric technology and automated garment construction techniques. As the technology gets better we get better products. Such as the development of new fabrics for example, coolmax which has effective moisture managment properties so therefor keeps the body dry. Technology does take away the art of making clothing from scratch and i am more of a practical person rather than having to sit at a computer all day.
My 5 year plan would either be to get a job as a designer or garment technologist and hopefully have a really successful career or because iv noticed there arent many designer jobs around at the moment, I would like to sell my own clothes on the internet. First I would take a short course on grading so i have the skills to make patterns in different sizes. Then i would look into the possibilities of having an online store or maybe just starting with an ebay account. I would have to make some garments to sell. I would see about advertising so people know about the site and if it goes well i would eventually have people making the outfits in a factory.

This is a piece from the vogue news website. 'Giorgio Armani and Prada, have united to ensure that this season's Milan Fashion Week will last a full seven days. The "unmissable" names have agreed to evenly distribute their shows across the week to guarantee that the world's press and buyers remain in Milan for the duration of the event, rather than leaving after the key shows are over. This will ensure that emerging designers were also seen by press and buyers.' This is a very good thing to do because its not fair on upcoming designers that the press dont view their work. Its a bit silly that they dont view it anyway because it could be amazing and they would miss it.

I have been looking into new modern and smart materials, particularly electronic clothing. This is something that really interests me and i think its absolutely amazing what can be done. This is something that is definately going to be big in the future. Hussein Chalayan's work is very inspiring and shows the next big things in a creative way. We can look forward to seeing wearable computing, such as MP3 players, mobile phones, cameras and laptops being incorporated into our clothing. There is even more complex and extreme examples of smart clothing, just one of the many possibilities of this is that a personal area network (PAN) on or aroung the body could send signals or data to another person or device. So for example a PAN could be concealed in a shoe, so if two people shook hands they could exhange business cards. I find this really interesting and the possibilities seem endless however there are obvious risks accosiated with this such as electro magnetic waves and even computer hacking where all your most personal information is at risk.
